Consulting for Attorneys

Begins February 15th 2013

Attorneys welcome expert witnesses who can explain complex matters in simple, straightforward fashion first to them and then to a judge or jury. In this one-week course, you'll learn what will be expected of you through each of a case's pre-trial, trial, and post-trial phases, along with what and when to charge.

Who Should Take This Course: Anyone who wants to work with attorneys successfully and be rehired as an expert witness. Learn that the law is what judges say it is and to frame your arguments accordingly while interacting with your instructor.

Instructor: Dr. Phillip Good, the seasoned instructor of this one-week internet course, has worked with attorneys on administrative, civil, and criminal cases.  He is the author of Applying Statistics in the Courtroom (CRC, 2001), Refuting the Testimony of Biomechanical Experts (2010), and nine other statistics textbooks including The A-Z of Error-Free Research Using R (CRC, 2012).  He has given tutorials at the Joint Statistical Meetings (U.S.) and Deming Conference, lectured in Australia, Bulgaria, Belgium, France, Holland, Ireland, Slovenia, and Spain, and was twice a traveling lecturer for the American Statistical Association. This is his sixth (6th) year of providing on-line interactive courses.

Prerequisite: None

Organization of the Course: The course takes place over the Internet.  During the course week, you participate at times of your own choosing - there are no set times when you must be online.  Course participants are given access to a private bulletin board that serves as a forum for discussion of ideas, problem solving, and interaction with the instructor. All students use aliases and their email addresses and company affiliations are concealed so that the open interchange of ideas is facilitated.

The course is interactive; readings and checklists are provided, and participants are encouraged to respond to the readings and interact with the instructor.
